In The Shadow of the Spires is the third anthology from The Frederick Writers’ Salon, a group of fiction writers from in and around Frederick County, Maryland. Each contributing author took inspiration from their favorite fiction genre and noir themes to create page turning, nail biting, wish they never ended stories.

The Maryland themed stories range from a Civil War-era crime case at Gambrill Mill to a gritty far-future dystopian Frederick, and from a vengeful ghost who lives in Carroll Creek to a cranky butterfly searching for dames at the Catoctin Creek Nature Center.

If you want to purchase In the Shadow of the Spires for your own consumption, you can purchase the paperback on Amazon for $9.99 or the Kindle ebook edition for $2.99. All of the profits from online and in-store sales will be donated to the Literary Council of Frederick County.

Join the Frederick Writers’ Salon on Sunday, September 20th from 3:30-4:45 p.m. on Zoom for a virtual reading of our latest anthology, In the Shadow of the Spires: A Collection of Noir Tales from the Frederick Writers’ Salon. Authors will read titillating scenes from their noir-inspired stories, and we’ll give away copies of our anthologies throughout the event. One lucky person will receive a set of all three Frederick Writers’ Salon anthologies, including Spires!

Registration is free and required for this event:  https://tinyurl.com/y6a93qdd . The first twenty registrants will receive a Frederick Writers’ Salon promo pack with bookmarks, contact cards, a Spires vinyl sticker, and more (must provide mailing address at registration.)  Winners for the book giveaways will be drawn at random and must be in attendance. Giveaways and promo packs apply to U.S. residents only. Contact information collected at registration will only be used for the purposes of this event and its giveaways and will not be retained or used afterwards.

Additionally, they are now hosting an open mic and live reading of Spires on 28 October at 7:30 pm.  You can register for this event here: https://bit.ly/34Wv64S

The Frederick Writers’ Salon’s first anthology, Unlocked, features eight short stories in which a key is a major plot device or a minor mention. Their second anthology, Intersections, was released in 2018 and contains eight intersecting stories from various genres, set in Downtown Frederick during a rainy First Saturday.

If you are interested in learning more about The Frederick Writers’ Salon or how to join their group, check them out on Meetup. Meetings are held twice a month, usually at The Common Market Co-op meeting room, but are now being held online.
